Research at the International Landslide Centre
Research is a fundamental part of our activities at the International Landslide Centre.  All staff are research active to a high level.  We undertake a wide range of research projects in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Our principal research areas are as follows:
  • Landslide mechanisms and processes
  • Material deformation and landslide movement
  • Modelling of slope systems
  • Landslide hazard and risk assessment
  • Frequency / magnitude relationships for landslides
  • Human vulnerability and landslide impacts
  • Terrestrial laser scanning for slope characterisation
  • Landslide monitoring
  • Geomorphological assessment of unstable terrain
  • The application of remote sensing techniques to landslide delineation
  • Low cost data collection techniques for terrain mapping

We have access to a wide range of facilities within the International Landslide Centre and from the Department of Geography, including:

  • A first class, unique geotechnical laboratory
  • A Land Rover 110 County Station Wagon
  • A portable drilling rig
  • Laser scanning systems
  • Site instrumentation including self-logging piezometers, extensometers and weather stations
  • Ground penetrating radar
