The
International Landslide Centre at Durham
University is housed within the
Department
of Geography, and is a part of
the Institute
of Hazard, Risk and Resilience.
Founded in 2002, the ILC seeks to play
a leading role in reducing the impact
of landslides worldwide, with a
particular focus on mountainous areas
in less developed countries.
Our activities are concentrated on
four core areas:
1. We undertake high quality research
into landslides, using
state-of-the-art techniques such as
terrestrial laser scanning,
geotechnical testing and satellite
remote sensing;
2. We seek to help other organisations
to develop capacity to understand and
manage landslide hazards.
Partners include other universities,
government organisations, private
enterprises and NGOs;
3. We offer assistance in dealing with
the aftermath of landslide disasters;
4. We provide resources to help the
public to understand the magnitude of
landslide impacts worldwide, and the
measures that can be taken to reduce
them
Needless to say we are keen to find
new partners with which to work, and
to recruit new postgraduate students.
