Welcome

Welcome to the International Landslide Centre
Thanks for visiting our site.  We hope that this will provide some insight into our range of activities.  We are keen to recruit more PhD students, so if you are interested in studying with us then please do contact us.

NEW: Landslide Blog

We now maintain an experimental blog aimed at discussing fatal landslides from around the world as they occur.  We also publish our monthly and annual landslide fatality maps there.  Please do take a look and leave a comment:

Introduction to the International Landslide Centre

The International Landslide Centre was established in the Department of Geography in 2003 with the following aims:
(1) To undertake fundamental research into landslide problems with a particular emphasis on less developed countries:
(2) To provide direct assistance to communities affected by landslide disasters
(3) Assist in the development of capabilities to cope with and mitigate against landslides in less developed countries
We are currently working on a range of projects in Asia, S. America, Africa, Europe and North America.  We undertake projects funded by industry; national and local government agencies; research councils; and by international organisations.  We are always seeking to work in new areas, so please do contact us.

Latest news

Kashmir Earthquake: We now have two web pages highlighting the ongoing landslide problems in Pakistan.  The first, from January 2006, examines the general issues, whilst the second, written in June 2006, looks at the specific problems ahead of the 2006 monsoon.  Please do have a look, and contact us with your thoughts.
